The Vicissitudes

it’s taken years of toil and travel to learn a simple truth:
success is either foiled or forged through life’s vicissitudes.
when they happen, and they will, they could give you a spark.
or they could upend and send you swimming in the dark.
the vicissitudes we call misfortunes are a crucial part of the plot.
and we all actually need them more than we ever thought.
because it’s nice to be cozy and comfy and pampered, ‘innit?
but then things change with the snap of a finger, in the span of a minute.
one second you’re chilling, sipping champagne, feeling gay,
the next you’re on a ledge in a hurricane with your life in disrepair.
