#45: What does beauty mean to you?
That which is pleasing to the senses.
The kind of pleasure one derives from beauty, any kind of beauty — a person, a a painting, a rainbow, a building, a poem, a song, a tree, a voice — is distinctly unique from other types of pleasures.
Beauty is not concerned with good or evil. Beauty is not better or worse, or even always necessarily what is most desired, but rather it is more pleasant to observe. To listen to. To feel. To be around.
Something can be simultaneously sad and beautiful. One need not look far to find examples of such things in their own lives.
Either through the composition of harmony and congruity, or the juxtaposition of contrast — it is pleasure that qualifies what is beautiful.
